Downloadable Audiobooks

I haven't used the downloadable audiobooks in awhile and I'm excited to see what a wonderful collection we have now. Great job! Now I hear we are adding music and films.

With our "on the go" culture, I think this is a great way for us to serve our customers. In a couple of weeks, I'll be on a plane. I better get my MP3 ready.

Podcasts

I can see where we could use podcasts for some of our programs. Also, we can use this for training. I think the podcast primary benefit is the convenience factor. You are not restricted to the only time a program is provided. I have subscribed to a health feed. Combined with the feed, the podcast really opens the door for me to capture areas of my interest.

Another possibility that I hope someone will see a place in our library.

YouTube

This is a favorite of mine. I can see all kinds of applications with YouTube. Recently, I viewed some short book reviews. They were fun and inviting, done by librarians. The library where this was happening actually experienced an increase in circulation of some of their older materials. I would love to see something like that added to our Books and Reading site. Anyone have proposal for the New Technology Committee?

I can also see this to draw attention to SRP or the Teens. It can be shared on our Facebook account.

We can even demonstrate certain types of procedures.

Web 2.0 awards

This is really fantastic. I checked out the travel and of course, the food. Also, events and health. All of them contain more information than any one could possibly take in at one time. I'm definitely going back to see what new restaurants I can try. Can you believe how many places there are to eat in this area!?

Web APS--Google Docs

Google Docs rocks--I like this so much more than having to handle multiple versions of a draft. It's also easier to get to wherever I am. I hope I can get those who are working with me on a project to use it.

Wiki Experience

With the wiki, we could accomplish many possibilities. I can see how a wiki could serve us well for project planning and committees. Everything is in one place. You can change and update.

Unfortunately, it takes some getting accustomed to when all this time we have used email. I hope staff will start considering this option for some of their projects and ideas. It doesn't have to be a customer service.

WEB 2.0--What does this mean to us

These articles broaden our understanding of what Web 2.0 is. I had the good fortune to read the OCLC article when it came out. It stills say a great deal to me.

Whoever wrote this in our "23 things" expresses it well.
"Library 2.0 is not solely about technology; instead, it advocates the leveraging of technology, when necessary, to propel constant and purposeful change in the library as well as to meet the needs of increased user participation in the evaluation and creation of library services."

The whole idea about the iceberg potential makes a great deal of sense and helps us to recognize that our purpose as librarians goes so much further than inside the walls of a building. I liked what Rick Anderson said, "We have to be a bit more humble in the current environment, and find new ways to bring our services to patrons rather than insisting that they come to us—whether physically or virtually. At a minimum, this means placing library services and content in the user’s preferred environment (i.e., the Web); even better, it means integrating our services into their daily patterns of work, study and play."

Technorati

Technorati presents an interesting array of ways to see blogs. Not my cup of tea. I did find some of the YouTube videos interesting. Photos, too.

Thing 13--Delicious

I like the idea of pulling everything together in place. I know it probably works for a lot of people. However, I'm happy with my RSS feeds with IE7. I already have too much information coming from so many places I can't keep up with it all.

The idea of connecting with others and seeing what they have tagged is certainly a plus.

Library Thing

What fun! Library Thing will help me keep up with what I've read and keep a list of those I plan to read. My favorite way to unwind is reading mysteries and I carry a book around with me most every where I go. My list of books has gotten so long, I don't always remember what I've read. LibraryThing will be perfect for me.

picture from image

Well, it must be that it is 4:30 on Friday afternoon, but I had big trouble figuring this one out. Thanks to my neighbor, Gary, I got it down. I'm glad to know how to do this. Lots of fun!

Life without Technology

It really is hard to think of day without using some kind of technology. We cook, we drive, we shop, we work with technology. I really wonder what we actually do without cell phones now. I don't think it was that long ago that I was wondering what I did without voice mail. Actually, I could still do without that sometime.

It's really all very amazing.

I love how we can use Picasso. One day when I get a lot of time, I would like to really spend some time with this. I really like the ability to search name tags.

I love pictures of nature, so my choice of pictures I found is

23 things - life long learning

I am playing now to learn about about new technologies presented in the 23 things. This is fun.

Thoughts about life long learning

A positive attitude about life long learning is necessary to lead a purposeful and exciting life. Receiving a degree doesn't mean you have reached the end. It means get ready to move the next learning opportunity.

Exploring Technology and learning about it requires a lot of play. It's not something you pick up just by reading.
